All lessons are given at Maple Street Guitars in Buckhead.
All levels taught - beginner to professional.
My teaching schedule:
Lesson fee is $30.00 per half hour lesson.
I play and teach a lot of different styles of music:
I am comfortable on various guitars:
I teach both plectrum and finger style.
I also offer soloing, improvisation, and theory.
I have huge number of personal transcriptions. I started transcribing at about 16 and have at least 4,000 transcriptions I regularly use in teaching - and the number continues to grow almost daily.
I've been playing professionally since I was 15 and started teaching when I was 20.
For beginners I have a method book (only available to my students) that uses excerpts of songs, as exercises, in order to help the student develop the skills and techniques necessary to play music. As soon as possible, I intruduce complete songs and encourage the student to think in terms of performing entire pieces of music.
For finger picking, I have hundreds of unique transcriptions that cover all styles and periods of music.
For those interested in soloing, I have hundreds of highly accurate note for note transcriptions from all styles of music and almost every great artist is represented. As the student learns a solo I help them analyze it for scales used, how notes were chosen to shape specific phrases and how tension and resolution is created. This takes the mystery out of soloing and sets the stage for improvising.
Developing skills for improvising is achieved by learning and analyzing solos by the student's favorite artist, along with music theory and fret board theory. I've always been drawn to the music of the great improvisational artists whether its rock, jazz, blues or country. Theory and composition was my major in college, and as a result, I bring not only knowledge, but a love and passion to this area of my teaching.
For students of classical guitar, I use what I think are the best classical guitar method books published and in many cases the very same books I used in school. I also have an extensive knowledge of the music available for classical guitar both older and more modern.
I've worked for three of the big guitar publishing companies and provided transcriptions for Guitar World Magazine. My transcriptions are extremely accurate and in most cases aren't available anywhere else.
I've had a love for doing arrangements since I was a teenager. All styles of music interest me (jazz, pop, country, blues and classical) and I draw from all these for my projects - both my solo and group performances. These arrangements make up a huge part of my repertoire.
